Since he was knee-high to a grasshopper, Usna had a passion for nature. This passion led Usna to complete a Degree in Zoology, a Master’s Degree in Marine Biology, and a Master’s by Research Degree in Bird Conservation. He has worked as a biologist in Ireland and abroad, with animals as varied as fish, reptiles, birds and mammals.
Usna also loves to teach people about nature. Through being a Heritage Expert of the Heritage Council (see link http://www.heritageinschools.ie/heritage-expert/profile/usna-keating), Usna teaches children about nature throughout Munster. Usna’s classes are designed to develop students’ appreciation and love for the outdoors and Ireland’s natural heritage.
The classes encourage development of observational, communication and creative skills. Usna offers classes that can be adapted to accommodate all age groups, class levels, and suit local themes or seasons. Classes include;
- Wildlife of Gardens and Woodlands
- Wildlife of Rivers
- Ireland’s Mammals
- Ireland’s Birds / Garden Birds
- The Marine World
- Whales, dolphins and sharks
